Florida Billionaires Buying Elections State Fact Sheet

  • Florida 128 billionaires control $1.1 trillion of national wealth as of September 1st. That is up $122 billion (12%) just since November of 2024. 
  • Florida’s billionaire class has spent $203 million to influence the outcomes of federal 2026 midterm elections. 
  • Democratic committees and liberal outside spending groups received $11 million from Florida billionaires, while Republican committees and conservative outside spending groups received $186 million from Florida billionaires. 
  • The top Florida billionaires federal election spenders are Paul Singer ($52 million), Ken Griffin ($32 million), the Reyes family  ($23.5 million), Konstantin Sokolov ($14.6 million), and Henry & Marsha Laufer ($15 million)
  • As of August 28th, billionaires have contributed $2 million directly to Florida candidates running for federal office and $590,000 to state & local party committees. Outside spending groups—primarily Super PACs—have flooded Florida’s airwaves and mailboxes with over $8 million of billionaire sourced political spending for federal candidates. With the general election just weeks away, expect this figure to grow dramatically.
  •  The races for Florida’s 19th and 24th Congressional districts have received the most billionaire spending, $4.2 million and $1.7 million respectively. 
    • Florida 19th’s open-seat Republican primary was ten candidates free for all with the eventual winner Jim Schwartzel prevailing with less than 30% of the vote. Billionaires spent heavily in favor of Trump-endorsed Catalina Lauf ($3.5 million) and aimed their fire against former Congressman Chris Collins ($750,000). 
    • Florida 24th open-seat Democratic primary, saw the near full consolidation of billionaires spending behind the victor Oliver Gilbert who benefited from $2.3 million of outside spending, $1.7 million of which came directly from billionaires. 
  • Dark Money groups, who don’t have to reveal their donor lists, have spent at least $2.3 million to influence the midterm elections in Florida.
